Invasive Species Management
An invasive plant species is an organism that is introduced to a new environment where it does not naturally belong, and then spreads rapidly. Because it lacks natural predators in its new home, it outcompetes native wildlife for resources and causes significant damage to the environment. Theses invasives have escaped our gardens and do not have the same natural restraints as native plants. Invasive plants quickly smother and displace native plants, reducing biodiversity and habitat.
Once we become aware of these plants its hard to unsee them. Drive down any road and you can see groves of English Ivy, Tree of heaven, Japanese Knotweed, Kudzu, Mugwort, Norway Maple and the list goes on. The few acres of open space Long Island has left, can quickly become overwhelmed by these species.
At Bay Native we offer many ways to remove these, plant natives in their place, and create a plan to keep them from coming back.
